AMD and Anthropic have announced one of the largest artificial intelligence infrastructure partnerships of the year, bringing together the chipmaker behind the Instinct GPU family and the company responsible for the Claude AI assistant.
Under the agreement announced on July 22, 2026, Anthropic plans to deploy up to two gigawatts of AMD Instinct MI450 Series GPUs. The first gigawatt of computing capacity is expected to begin deployment during the first half of 2027.
AMD has also committed to making a potential strategic equity investment of up to $5 billion in Anthropic. The investment is expected to be tied to future milestones and deployment progress.
The announcement is not simply another funding story. It shows how access to computing power has become one of the most important competitive advantages in the artificial intelligence industry.
What AMD and Anthropic Announced
Anthropic will use AMD’s upcoming Helios rack-scale systems to expand the infrastructure used to train and operate Claude.
